The Weekend Workshop

Last Friday, Daniel saw a small notice at the community center near his home. It said that there would be a free weekend workshop about repairing simple things around the house.

فــي يوم الجمعة المـــاضي، رأى دانيال إعلانًا صغيرًا فــي المركز المجتمعي القريب مـــن مـــنزالية. وكان الإعلان يقول إن تجد هناك ورشة مجانية فــي عطلة نهاية الأسبوع عن إصلاح الأشياء البسيطة فــي المـــنزل.

Daniel had always wanted to learn how to repair things, but he had never found enough time. Whenever something stopped working at home, he usually called someone to fix it.

كان دانيال يرغب دائمًا فــي تتعلم اليةةية إصلاح الأشياء، لكنه لم يجد ظلًا كافــيًا مـــن قبل. وكـــلمـــا تعطل شيء فــي المـــنزل، كان العودةةً يتصل بشخص لإصلاحه.

He decided to join the workshop. He thought it would be a good opportunity to learn something practical and useful.

قرر المشاركة فــي الورشة. وظن أنها ستكون الفرصة متميزة لتتعلم شيء عملي ومفــيد.

On Saturday morning, Daniel arrived at the community center early. There were about ten people in the room, and several tables were covered with tools and small machines.

فــي صباح يوم السبت، وصل دانيال إلــى المركز المجتمعي مبكرًا. كان تجد هناك حوالي عشرة أشخاص فــي الغرفة، وكانت عدة طاولات مغطاة بالأدوات والأجهزة الصغيرة.

The instructor welcomed everyone and explained that they would learn how to repair a loose chair, a simple lamp, and a small kitchen appliance.

Daniel was surprised when the instructor said that they did not need expensive tools. Most of the repairs could be done with a few basic tools and some patience.

تفاجأ دانيال عندمـــا قال المدرب إنهم لا يحتاجون إلــى أدوات باهظة الثـــمـــن. كان مـــن الممكن إجراء معظم الإصلاحات يتم استخدام بعض الأدوات الأساسية والقليل مـــن الصبر.

The first task was fixing the loose chair. Daniel turned it upside down and looked carefully at the legs. One of the screws was almost completely out.

كانت ذات الأهمية الأولى هي إصلاح الكرسي غير الثابت. قلب دانيال الكرسي ونظر بعناية إلــى أرجالية. كان أحد المسامير قد خرج تقريبًا بالكامل.

He picked up a screwdriver and tried to tighten it. At first, he turned it in the wrong direction and made the screw even looser.

أمسك مفكًا وحاول إحكام المسمـــار. فــي الخطوة الأولى، أدار المفك فــي الاتجاه الخطأ وجعل المسمـــار أكثر ارتخاءً.

Everyone around him laughed, including Daniel. The instructor smiled and said, “Making mistakes is part of learning.”

ضحك علينا مـــن حوالية، بمـــا فــي ذلك دانيال. ابتسم المدرب وقال: “ارتكاب الأخطاء جزء مـــن التتعلم.”

Daniel tried again, this time turning the screwdriver in the correct direction. After a few seconds, the screw was tight.

حاول دانيال مرة أخرى، وهذه المرة أدار المفك فــي الاتجاه السليم. وبعــد بضع ثوانٍ، أصبح المسمـــار محكمًا.

He put the chair back on the floor and sat on it carefully. It did not move anymore. Daniel felt proud of himself.

أالعودة الكرسي إلــى الأرض وجلس علــىه بحذر. لم يعد يتحرك. شعر دانيال بالفخر بنفسه.

The next activity was more difficult. They had to find the problem in a small lamp that was not working.

كان النشاط القادم أكثر صعوبة. كان علــىهم اكتشاف المشكـــلة فــي مصباح صغير لا يعمل.

Daniel checked the cable and the switch, but everything looked fine. He did not know what to do next.

فحص دانيال السلك والمفتاح، لكن كـــل شيء بدا سليمًا. لم يكن يعرف مـــاذا يقوم بعــد ذلك.

The instructor told him to look at the problem step by step instead of trying to guess the answer.

أخبره المدرب أنه يفحص المشكـــلة خطوة بخطوة بدلًا مـــن محاولة تخمين الإجابة.

Daniel followed the advice. He checked each part carefully and eventually found that a small connection inside the lamp was loose.

تتبع دانيال النصيحة. فحص كـــل جزء بعناية، وفــي النهاية اكتشف أنه تجد هناك وصلة صغيرة داخل المصباح غير ثابتة.

After fixing it, he turned the lamp on. The light came on immediately.

بعــد إصلاحها، شغل المصباح. أضاء المصباح علــى الفور.

Daniel smiled. He had always thought that repairing things was complicated, but now he realized that many problems could be solved by staying calm and checking the details.

ابتسم دانيال. كان يعتقد دائمًا أنه إصلاح الأشياء أمر معقد، لكنه أدرك حيث اليوم أنه العديد مـــن المشكـــلات يمكن حاليةا مـــن خــلال االيةدوء وفحص التفاصيل.

During the lunch break, everyone sat together and talked about their experiences. Some people had repaired things before, while others were beginners like Daniel.

خــلال استراحة الغداء، جلس علينا معًا وتحدثوا عن تجاربهم. كان بعض الأشخاص قد أصلحوا أشياء مـــن قبل، بينمـــا كان آخرون مبتدئين مثل دانيال.

One man said that he had once tried to repair a washing machine by himself and made the problem worse. Everyone laughed when he told the story.

قال أحد الرجال إنه حاول ذات مرة إصلاح غسالة بنفسه، لكنه جعل المشكـــلة أسوأ. فضحك علينا عندمـــا حكى القصة.

In the afternoon, they learned how to use a few more tools. Daniel became more comfortable and started helping the people sitting next to him.

فــي فترة بعــد الظهر، تتعلموا اليةةية استخدام بعض الأدوات الأخرى. أصبح دانيال أكثر ارتياحًا وبدأ يساعد الأشخاص الــذين يجلسون بجانبه.

At the end of the workshop, the instructor gave everyone a small list of safety rules and useful tips. He also encouraged them to practice at home.

فــي نهاية الورشة، أعطى المدرب علينا قائمة صغيرة بقواعد السلامة والنصائح المفــيدة. كمـــا شجعهم علــى التدريب فــي المـــنزل.

Daniel went home feeling excited. He looked around his apartment and noticed several small things that needed attention.

العودة دانيال إلــى المـــنزل وهـــو يشعر بالحمـــاس. نظر حول شقته ولاحظ عدة أشياء صغيرة تحتاج إلــى الاهتمـــام.

Instead of calling someone immediately, he decided to try fixing one of them himself.

بدلًا مـــن الاتصال بشخص لإصلاحها علــى الفور، قرر أنه يحاول إصلاح أحدها بنفسه.

That evening, Daniel understood that learning a new skill does not always require a lot of time or money. Sometimes, all you need is the chance to try.

From that weekend on, Daniel became more confident about fixing simple things. He still asked for help when a problem was too difficult, but he no longer felt afraid of trying something new.
