The Small Restaurant

Every morning, Anna walked past a small restaurant on her way to work. The restaurant was on a quiet street, between a bookstore and a flower shop. It was not a famous place, and there were usually only a few customers inside. However, Anna always noticed the wonderful smell of fresh bread and coffee when she passed by.

كـــل صباح، كانت آنا تمر بجوار مطعم صغير فــي اليةها إلــى العمل. كان المطعم يقع فــي شارع هادئ، بين متجر لبيع الكتب ومتجر للزهـــور. لم يكن مكانًا مشهـــورًا، والعودةةً مـــا كان يوجد بداخالية مجموعة قليل مـــن الزبائن. ومع ذلك، كانت آنا تلاحظ دائمًا الرائحة الرائعة للخبز الطازج والقهـــوة عندمـــا تمر مـــن أمـــامه.

For months, Anna wanted to enter the restaurant, but she was always in a hurry. She usually bought a quick breakfast from a bakery near her office. She often told herself that she would visit the restaurant one day when she had more time.

One rainy Tuesday morning, something different happened. Anna left home earlier than usual because she had an important meeting at ten o’clock. She wanted to arrive at work early and prepare everything before the meeting.

As she walked down the street, she suddenly realized that she had forgotten her umbrella. The rain was getting heavier, so she looked for a place where she could wait.

The small restaurant was right in front of her.

Anna smiled and quickly walked inside.

ابتسمت آنا ودخلت بسرعة.

“Good morning,” said a friendly woman behind the counter. “Would you like a table?”

“Yes, please. I’ll stay until the rain becomes lighter,” Anna replied.

أجابتها آنا: «نعم، مـــن فضلك. سأبقى حتى يخف المطر.»

The woman showed her a small table near the window. Anna sat down and looked around. The restaurant was warm and comfortable. There were plants near the windows, small paintings on the walls, and soft music playing in the background.

أرتها المرأة طاولة صغيرة بالقرب مـــن النافذة. جلست آنا ونظرت حواليةا. كان المطعم دافئًا ومريحًا. كانت تجد هناك نباتات بالقرب مـــن النوافذ، ولوحات صغيرة علــى الجدران، وموسيقى هادئة تعمل فــي الخلفــية.

Anna looked at the menu and ordered coffee and a cheese sandwich. While she was waiting, she opened her laptop and started preparing for her meeting.

نظرت آنا إلــى قائمة الطعام وطلبت قهـــوة وشطيرة بالجبن. وبينمـــا كانت تنتظر، فتـــحت جهاز الكمبيوتر المحمول وبدأت فــي الاستعداد لاجتمـــاعها.

A few minutes later, the woman brought her coffee.

بعــد بضع دقائق، أحضرت اليةا المرأة القهـــوة.

“Are you working?” she asked with a smile.

سألتها بابتسامة: «هل تعملين؟»

“Yes. I have an important meeting this morning,” Anna answered.

أجابتها آنا: «نعم. لدي اجتمـــاع مهم هذا الصباح.»

“Good luck,” the woman said. “I hope everything goes well.”

قالت المرأة: «حظًا موفقًا. أتمـــنى أنه يسير كـــل شيء علــى مـــا يرام.»

Anna thanked her. There was something warm about the woman’s voice that made Anna feel comfortable.

شكرتها آنا. كان تجد هناك شيء دافئ فــي صوت المرأة جعل آنا تشعر بالراحة.

After a while, Anna noticed that the restaurant had become busier. Several people came in to escape the rain. The woman behind the counter moved quickly between the tables, serving food and drinks.

بعــد فترة، لاحظت آنا أنه المطعم أصبح أكثر ازدحامًا. دخل عدة أشخاص هربًا مـــن المطر. وكانت المرأة خلف المـــنضدة تتحرك بسرعة بين الطاولات، وتقدم الطعام والمشروبات.

Anna watched her for a few minutes. She looked tired, but she continued smiling and speaking kindly to every customer.

When Anna finished preparing for her meeting, she closed her laptop. She checked the time and realized that she still had thirty minutes before she needed to leave.

“Do you own this restaurant?” Anna asked.

“Yes,” the woman replied. “My name is Maria. My husband and I opened this place five years ago.”

Anna looked surprised. “It’s a lovely place. I’ve walked past it many times, but this is my first visit.”

بدت آنا مـــندهشة وقالت: «إنه مكان جميل. لقد مررت مـــن أمـــامه مرات كثيرة، لكن هذه أول زيارة لي.»

Maria smiled. “Many people say that. They see the restaurant from outside, but they don’t know what is inside.”

ابتسمت مـــاريا وقالت: «العديد مـــن الناس يقولون ذلك. يرون المطعم مـــن الخارج، لكنهم لا يعرفون مـــا بداخالية.»

Anna laughed. “I suppose I was one of those people.”

ضحكت آنا وقالت: «أعتقد أنهني كنت واحدة مـــن هؤلاء الأشخاص.»

Maria sat down for a moment. She told Anna that opening the restaurant had been a difficult decision. At first, business was slow, and there were days when they had only a few customers.

جلست مـــاريا للحظة. وأخبرت آنا أنه افتتاح المطعم كان قرارًا صعبًا. فــي الخطوة الأولى، كانت الأعمـــال بطيئة، وكانت تجد هناك الأيام لم يكن لديهم فــيــها سوى مجموعة قليل مـــن الزبائن.

Anna listened carefully. She was impressed by Maria’s story.

“What happened?” Anna asked.

سألتها آنا: «مـــاذا حدث بعــد ذلك؟»

“Little by little, more people started coming. Some customers brought their friends. Others told their families about us. We never became a huge restaurant, but we became part of the neighborhood.”

أجابتها مـــاريا: «شيئًا فشيئًا، بدأ المزيد مـــن الناس فــي القدوم. كان بعض الزبائن يحضرون أصدقاءهم، وكان آخرون يخبرون عائلاتهم عنا. لم نصبح مطعمًا ضخمًا، لكننا أصبحنا جزءًا مـــن الحي.»

Anna smiled. “That sounds wonderful.”

ابتسمت آنا وقالت: «هذا يبدو رائعًا.»

Just then, Anna received a message from her manager. The meeting had been moved to the afternoon.

Anna was surprised. She suddenly had several free hours.

For the first time in a long time, Anna was not rushing anywhere.

لأول مرة مـــنذ ظل طويل، لم تكن آنا فــي عجلة مـــن أمرها للذهاب إلــى أي مكان.

She looked through the window and watched the rain slowly stop. The street became brighter as the clouds disappeared.

نظرت مـــن خــلال النافذة وشاهدت المطر يتوقف ببطء. وأصبح الشارع أكثر إشراقًا مع اختفاء الغيوم.

Before leaving, Anna thanked Maria.

قبل أنه تغادر، شكرت آنا مـــاريا.

“I’m glad I forgot my umbrella today,” she said.

Maria laughed. “That’s a strange thing to be happy about.”

“Maybe,” Anna replied, “but if I hadn’t forgotten it, I would never have discovered this place.”

أجابتها آنا: «ربمـــا، لكن لو لم أنهسها، لمـــا اكتشفت هذا المكان أبدًا.»

From that day on, Anna became a regular customer at the small restaurant. Sometimes she went there for breakfast before work. Other times, she visited after a difficult day because she knew she would always feel better there.

ومـــنذ ذلك حيث اليوم، أصبحت آنا زبونة دائمة فــي المطعم الصغير. أحيانًا كانت تذهب إليه لتناول الإفطار قبل العمل. وفــي أوقات أخرى، كانت تزوره بعــد يوم صعب لأنه كانت استعلم أنها ستشعر دائمًا بتحسن تجد هناك.

She also learned an important lesson from Maria. Good things do not always happen quickly. Sometimes, we have to be patient, keep working, and believe in what we are doing.

كمـــا تتعلمت درسًا مهمًا مـــن مـــاريا. الأشياء المتميزة لا تحدث دائمًا بسرعة. أحيانًا علــىنا أنه نتحلى بالصبر، ونستمر فــي العمل، ونؤمـــن بمـــا نفعالية.

Anna had always thought that a successful life meant being busy all the time. But that rainy morning taught her something different.

Sometimes, slowing down is exactly what we need to discover something valuable.
