 This is one of the secrets of the greatness of Islam and the universality of the Qur’an… He was an officer in the French army in Algeria… and a sailor

He is one of the sailors who was helped by a Muslim sailor from Yemen

Their youth spent time in the depths of the seas, and during that period this Muslim was often seen continuing his prayers and worship.

Sometimes he made fun of him and sometimes poked him

But this Muslim continued his work and his relationship with God, not caring about him, as long as he did not try to prevent him from performing the duties of his religion.

Days pass, and it is God’s will that the waves rise over the small ship and contain it with strong waves, so the sailor and those with him become certain of doom, so he resorts to the help of the Muslim sailor, pleading and submissive, to pray rak’ahs to God in times of distress.

Because he was always with him in prosperity

Perhaps God will save them from the calamity they are in

The Muslim sailor turns to his Lord, beseeching Him to save them, using a verse that he has often repeated in similar situations as guidance and martyrdom.

It is in His Almighty’s saying in the Qur’an

(or like the darkness in a deep sea covered by a wave, and above it is a wave, and above it is a cloud). One part of it on top of another. When he took out his hand, he could hardly see it. And whoever for whom God does not make light, then he has no light. (40) Al-Nour 40

 God  ( Allah ) Almighty decrees that the danger will be replaced by the stillness of the sea, the calm of its waves, and the darkness will dissipate

This sailor turns to help the Muslim sailor

He began his dialogue with him, inquiring about Islam’s view on such a phenomenon

So he explained to him the meaning of the noble verse, and the sailor stopped in disbelief

He said: Was Muhammad a sailor?

The assistant said: No. The sailor said: Has he ever sailed on the sea in his life?

The Muslim said: No. The sailor said: How could such a scene come about, which I have never seen manifested in my life full of sailing the seas except this day, when I find the Qur’an speaking about it from the reality of the sighting?!

He said: This is one of the secrets of the greatness of Islam and the universality of the Qur’an, and this scene was a direct introduction to this sailor’s embrace of Islam with conviction and understanding.

He says: One day, when I was an officer in the French army in Algeria, I went out roaming the desert in the province of Oran, with thirty Arab knights behind me (meaning the Algerian knights).

When the time for prayer came, they dismounted from their horses and lined up to perform the afternoon prayer as a group

He described his feeling when he had to step aside until they had finished performing their prayer, saying, “I wish the earth opened and swallowed me up.”

I watched the wide robe fold and unfold with the movements of the worshipers, and I heard them repeating in a loud voice: Allah is the greatest.

Allah Akbar Allah Akbar Allah Akbar

This divine name had a strange effect on me. I felt that those knights who had been bowing before me before this moment felt in their prayers that they were higher in status and more important than me.

He is a professor of journalism and a professor at New York University. He belonged to a Christian Catholic family and was working in Morocco as an American radio correspondent. The reason for his conversion to Islam was two incidents.

He says: The first time was when my feet stumbled in a hole one day when I went out for the first time to a popular market in the city of Rabat, and immediately I found a number of Moroccans rushing to help me get up.

They eagerly ask me if I have been hurt!!!

The second incident happened one day

  I found dozens of my neighbors and acquaintances coming to visit me and each of them trying to do something I was amazed

I have not found a parallel to this human behavior

In my country, America, where everyone only cares about themselves, the purely material nature of life there taints them all with selfishness

  With us, a person is lucky if someone helps him or visits his family during his illness, or even if they ask about him. So when I asked them about the motivation that drives them to do all this for me for free

They all answered: This is what their Islamic religion imposes on them and their great Messenger Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, commands them to do. Then I could not control myself and found tears falling from my eyes.

Then I devoted myself to studying the translation of the meanings of the Holy Qur’an, and then I realized that this was a clear sign from God Almighty guiding me to hasten to embrace the true Islamic religion immediately    my wife, and my son converted to Islam at the Grand Mosque in New York upon my return to America
