In France, generally it is widely used
MONSIEUR – for a man
MADAME – for a woman
MADEMOISELLE – if the lady is young or unmarried
The titles are used usually to address people if you are not on first-name terms with them. In Writing the titles are as per: M – monsieur, Mme – madame, Mlle – mademoiselle
